The Bible instructs us in (Romans 12:2) “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect”.
We need to empty our hearts and minds from the things of this world and be concerned about the things of God and his kingdom.
It is inevitable to deny the fact that life can sometimes be challenging. But despite it all, we should remember that every beginning has an end. This means, we are only here for a short time and then we’ll be no more. James 4:14 reminds us that our “life is like the morning fog — it’s here a little while, then it’s gone“. Therefore, do not be overwhelmed with things that will fade away, but rather focus on the things that will matter even after you have left this world. These are eternal treasures that are stored in the Kingdom of God, and include righteousness, godliness, understanding, following the will of God and much more
Regardless of our trials and challenges, we must be willing to take up our cross and follow Christ (Matthew 16:24). We must continue to press on and not give up on the faith and hope we have in Christ.
Similarly, this is not meant for us to ignore our current reality but to remind us that there is another reality that we should not forget about the reality of the Kingdom of God. This reality comes with eternal rewards in Christ.
Instead of letting our minds be consumed by things that overwhelm us, we should concentrate on what brings us peace and true life. As believers, we should strive to solely focus our minds on Christ. This means we must discipline our minds to think of “whatever is true, honourable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, excellence, or worthy of praise” (Philippians 4:8). What you consume will either shine light into your life or overpower you with darkness.
It is important to cultivate a mindset that deeply cares about what is important to the Father. God commands us “to be renewed in the spirit of your minds”- Ephesians 4:23. We must be enrolled in the school of the spirit, where we consistently allow God’s spirit to transform our minds until we no longer think like the world thinks but like Christ thinks.
All this is not a means of neglecting responsibility and becoming careless in our dealings on earth. Rather, while we are participating in life on earth, we should have a great understanding of our purpose: to be disciples of Jesus, do the work He has for us, and keep our focus on our true home- the Kingdom of God.
Prayer:
- Lord, let my mind always stay on you (Isaiah 26:3).
- Lord help me to set my mind on things above and not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2)
