The Kingdom of God- Ask Questions

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33)

The Word of God contains solutions, offering profound revelations and insights into God’s ways. Most importantly, it guides us on how to enter the Kingdom of God.

In our spiritual journey, one of the most crucial practices we can adopt is asking questions about God’s kingdom. By seeking answers and gaining a deeper understanding, we open ourselves to profound insights and revelations. This article explores why it’s essential to inquire and reflect on the mysteries of God’s kingdom and how this pursuit can enrich our faith and spiritual growth.

As much as we can be excited to know about the blessings that God has in store for those who know and love him, it is equally important for us to focus on how to get into the kingdom of God. We must ask questions that will stir our curiosity and lead us to a place where we consistently converse with the Holy Spirit. Through this conversation, the Holy Spirit can then guide us into the revelation of God’s Kingdom.

Where do you want to go?

In various bible passages, we get a glimpse of where we will be going after death: heaven or hell, depending on the choices we make here on earth. If you want to go to heaven when you leave this world, you should know about God’s Kingdom. You should ask questions such as: “What are the requirements to enter the kingdom of God?”. It is crucial not to assume that knowing God will simply grant entrance into His Kingdom.

There are requirements we must follow to enter God’s Kingdom. For example, the bible mentioned in Mark 10:15 that the Kingdom of God must be received ‘like a little child’ to enter. Therefore we should ask ourselves:

  • How do I receive the Kingdom of God like a little child?
  • Have I received the Kingdom of God like a little child?

The Kingdom of God is inherited

Furthermore, Matthew 25:34 mentions that the Kingdom of God is inherited and only blessed people can inherit the Kingdom. Therefore we must ask ourselves:

  • Does God see me as blessed enough to inherit His kingdom?
  • Do I have a portion of this inheritance in the Kingdom of God? What are the proofs?

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world”- Matthew 25:34

Similarly, 1 Corinthians 15:50 tells us that it is not flesh and blood that can inherit the Kingdom of God or the perishable, but it is the imperishable. This means that we can not inherit the Kingdom of God with our physical bodies or our natural minds; It is the Spirit of God working within and through us. We might ask ourselves:

    • Is the Holy Spirit working through me daily or am I thriving and aiming towards the Kingdom of God through my own flesh?

    • Am I using my own energy to fuel only what the Holy Spirit was created to do?

Not of this world

Likewise, John 18:36 mentions that God’s Kingdom is not of this world. This means that God’s Kingdom does not reflect the world’s patterns. Therefore, we might ask ourselves:

    • Is the Kingdom I know reflecting this world?

    • Can I compare the kingdom I know with the things I wish for on earth? If so, check again, you might be thinking of a completely different Kingdom than that which God has described in His word.

According to Romans 14:17, God’s Kingdom is not just about eating, drinking or celebrating. It is about righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. This means that the Kingdom of God is not just about a celebration that we have received and inherited the kingdom of God; it is an internal transformation. We must let go of the old Kingdom (kingdom of darkness) and let in the Kingdom of light. In this Kingdom, we experience true joy, the peace of God and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We might ask ourselves:

    • Do I experience peace, joy and righteousness in the Holy Spirit? – the knowledge of the Kingdom of God will allow us to walk freely in this.

God calls us

1 Thessalonians 2:12 emphasises to us that God calls people into His kingdom. Hence, it will not be a freestyle scrolling that people will find themselves in the Kingdom of God. No, He has to call you for you to come into it.

God is a God of order. No one can just unexpectedly find themselves in the Kingdom of God without knowing where they are going before they die. God has standards, His standards are written in his word. He doesn’t hide His standards at all. When we follow God’s standards regardless of the trials and tribulations and regardless of the headaches and heartaches of life, He will call us. He is the only one who decides who He calls into His kingdom, after all, it is the Kingdom of God, not our Kingdom.

The Will of the Father

Jesus reveals to us in Matthew 7:21 that only those who do the will of His Father will enter into His Kingdom. We must be real with ourselves, and ask ourselves:

    • Is what I’m doing right now, God’s will?

    • Am I waking in the will that God has specifically set for my life?

You may have been doing what you’re doing for many years now and enjoying it so much, but is it what God asked you to do? Is it the will of the Father for you? Matthew 7:21 clearly says if you don’t do the will of God, you are not entering the Kingdom! Consequently, it is crucial that as children of God, we should make it our daily priority to ask the Father what His will is for our lives and ask him to help us to walk in the will regardless of how scary or frightening it may be. Ask Him, he created you, and He will show you.

Just because we accepted Christ into our lives doesn’t mean we will all enter the Kingdom of Heaven. There is more required to enter, and it is for us to do the father’s will, both his general will (for all his children) and specific will (for each individual child)? Therefore, we can ask ourselves:

    • What is the general will of the Father for my life? – how do I know and walk in it?

    • What is the specific will of my father for my life? – how do I know and walk in it?

What will you hear?

Jesus outlines in Matthew 7:22-23 that many people will say “Lord, Lord did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name and do mighty works in your name and the Lord will “tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’. This indicates that God already knows that many will be distracted, misled and completely miss what it was all about- God.

It is better to be a cleaner for God than to be a CEO and be departed from God. People who do evil work, whose hearts are toxic and polluted with the things of this world will not be entering into God’s Kingdom. What are the deep motives of your heart while calling the name of God? This is the best time to ask yourself:

    • Is my heart clean?

    • Are my motives to teach the gospel from a place of purity and not from a place that others must know I’m a good teacher?

    • Is my calling the name of God to build an audience so people will know me?

    • Is my calling the name of God so that I can build my own brand?

we-must-ask-questions-3

Ask questions! Ask so that it won’t be too late. Ask the Holy Spirit to search the depth of your heart and uproot what is not of Him. Ask him to identify the seeds that has now grown into a mighty thorn in you that will eventually lead you on the wrong path, the path that no longer carries God’s heart but can still pray using God’s name. Ask Him to work with you to identify the roots of the lies of the enemy- Ask Him to uproot the lies the devil has buried deep inside of you. Ask Him to help you.

Hidden Secrets

In Scripture, Matthew 13:11 reveals that there are hidden secrets of the Kingdom of God, it is for us to know these secrets. This means that God is not trying to hide them from us; rather, He wants as many people as possible to enjoy and taste His Kingdom’s secrets.  You might ask questions such as:

    • What are these secrets of the Kingdom of God?

    • What must I do for God to reveal these secrets to me?

Stored Treatures

Finally, Matthew 6:19-21 outlines to us that those who are going to the Kingdom of God must store up treasures that aligns with God’s standards. Material things can not be stored in God’s Kingdom. It also shows us that the Kingdom of God is a safe place, where anything stored will not be stolen, rusted or destroyed. Therefore, we might ask ourselves:

    • What does storing treasures mean in the Kingdom of God?

    • What treasures can I store up in heaven?

    • What are the treasures of the Kingdom of God?

    • What type of treasures does God want me to store in His Kingdom- is it hard to store them and how do I go about storing these treasures?

    • How do I know my treasures are being kept in a safe place?

    • How do I know I am storing up good treasures?

    • Why can I not have both treasures on earth and in heaven (vs 20)?

    • How do I know if my heart is fixed on building the right treasure?

Reflecting on these questions will help ensure that our focus remains on eternal values and align our actions with God’s will.

Keep Asking

In conclusion, this article is not to condemn you but to encourage you to open your heart to God and allow Him to reveal the true state of your faith since you accepted Him into your life. The worst thing would be to stand in front of God on the last day, expecting to hear, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!” only to hear “I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!” (Matthew 25:23, Matthew 7:23)
