Let it go

It is okay to give up on something that is not working for you any more. Yes, it is okay to let go!

You don’t have to prove to anyone or even to yourself that you are a determined person or that you don’t give up easily. If it’s not working and you have tried all you can. Let it go.

There is a season for everything and knowing the season you are in, what you are supposed to do, when the season is over, will really help you to not waste time here on earth (Ecclesiastes 3).

When we hang on to things that its season has long expired or that were not even meant for us in the first place, we are setting ourselves up for burnout.

When God tells you to let it go, let it go! He knows what’s best for you. If the relationship isn’t working, let it go. If that job is not for you, let it go. If that business deal is not the right one for you, let it go. You do not have to prove anything to anyone.

Sometimes we hold on to things with the fear of losing out, in case it does work out. We must ask ourselves, for how long can I hold on to this? How long will I be in seasons that have been long expired in God’s eyes? If God says let go, then trust him and let go. God telling you to let go, is also Him telling you that He has something much better for you, than this. Let go, trust him and let him show you the storehouse full of blessings that He has for you.

The season of trying to show that you are a determined person in the wrong places is over. This season is not for you to prove anything to anyone, but for you to be at peace with the work that has been placed in your hands and with where God has planted you.

Life doesn’t have to be about you always trying to prove yourself just because people know you as that “never giving up, go-getter” person. When the things you are going after are not in God’s design for you, you can easily lose yourself and lose your way.

Today, I encourage you to let it go. Let go of whatever is in your hands that you have strongly and deeply held on to. Allow yourself to give up and walk out on that thing that you have been trying to make work all by yourself and you know in your heart that you are only forcing it and God is not even in it! Let it go. If is in God’s will for you, He will make it work for you.

It is true that sometimes, you do want to let it go but it can be hard to do by yourself. Well, the Holy Spirit is here as the helper, to help you to release it out of your hands. Ask him to help you.

When we release things that are not for us, the Holy Spirit is then able to take our hand and lead us to the things that are for us.

I invite you to re-evaluate everything that is in your hands and everything that you are currently holding on to. It could be your involvement in different activities, the friends you are holding on to etc. Write them down, and ask the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth to reveal what is not in God’s will for your life (John 16:13-14).

Take time to really reflect on these things. One by one, list and evaluate:

  • Those things God has given you the ability to do ( it may be tiring and sometimes hard, but in your heart, you know that it is God who has given you the strength to do it),
  • The things you know that it was God who told you to start initially, but you were supposed to have closed that chapter ages ago but you didn’t. It’s time to let it go. It will weigh you down if you bring it with you into the new year.
  • The people in your life who are no longer on the same path God has for you (this one tends to be really hard to do). Go through each one and cross the things out that no longer serve the purpose of God over your life.

As the year is coming to an end, this is the best time to start re-evaluating and repositioning yourself for the year to come.

Just because you are a determined person doesn’t mean you have to consistently hang on to the things that are not for you. God wants to invite you into a season of discerning what He wants for you. Allow his leading in your life today.

Prayer:

  1. Holy Spirit, help me to let go of the things that you are no longer in.
  2. Lord, Help me to give up on the things that are not good for me. The things that may appear to make me happy in the short term but miserable in the long term.
  3. Spirit of Truth, reveal to me the truth about the activities that I am involved in. Teach me how to say no to what you are saying no to and yes to what you are saying yes to.
  4. Lord, give me the strength to walk away from relationships that are not from you.
  5. Lord help me not to lose you or myself in the pursuit of life’s happiness.
  6. Lord, Help me to be constantly in tune with you in every area of my life.
